FAQ
Questions worth answering plainly.
The data
- Where does the enforcement data come from?
- Four federal agencies' own data services: the Department of Labor's for OSHA inspections, citations and penalties; MSHA's for mines and quarries; EPA's ECHO for hazardous waste, air and water enforcement; and the Department of Transportation's for FMCSA roadside inspections of trucks. The data sources page says what we read from each and how late it arrives.
- How current is it?
- Synchronization runs daily. However, records reach the public data some time after the underlying event — often weeks. We always show both the government date on the record and the date we first observed it, and we never present an older event as brand new.
- Do records change after they are published?
- Yes. Open cases can be corrected, contested, reduced or closed. We keep every version we receive and surface changes rather than overwriting them.
- Are you affiliated with OSHA or any agency?
- No. ViolationPulse is an independent software platform. It uses the DOL Data API and MSHA, EPA and DOT open data, and is not endorsed or certified by any of them.
Matching and scoring
- How do you decide what reaches my feed?
- Your territory, industries, services, minimum penalty, citation types and exclusions are applied to each enforcement event. Only matching events appear.
- What is the Opportunity Score?
- Our own 0–100 score built from recency, citation severity, penalty significance, enforcement history and service fit. It is not an OSHA measure. Every score can be opened to show the exact factors and points behind it.
- Do you use AI to classify citations?
- Only where it earns its place. Cited standards are mapped to service categories by a deterministic rulebook first. A language model is used only for genuinely ambiguous cases and summaries, and its output must satisfy a strict schema or it is rejected.
Outreach and compliance
- How do you keep outreach compliant?
- Accurate sender identity, a non-deceptive subject, a working unsubscribe mechanism and a real business postal address are required on every commercial message. Those elements cannot be removed by the sender.
- What happens when someone opts out?
- The address is added to your organization's suppression list immediately and no future campaign can contact it. Suppression entries are never deleted by removing a campaign.
- Can I send from my own domain?
- Yes, and only from it. On Growth and above you connect your own mailbox — Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or any mail server — with an app password, and your messages go out through your own mail server, under your name and your domain, paced under a daily limit you set. ViolationPulse never sends your outreach from its own domain. Prefer your own sequencer? Export a CSV instead.
Account and billing
- Can I try it before paying?
- Yes. Request five free matched opportunities and we'll email a short report. No credit card required.
- What happens if I reach a plan limit?
- Nothing breaks. New consumption pauses and we show an upgrade prompt; your existing data and campaigns keep working.
- Can I export my data?
- Yes. CSV export is available on every plan, and account export is available on request.
